Sherman Allen Murphy, 94, Casey County, KY (1920-2015)

He was a veteran of World War II and a businessman. He was the former owner/operator of Murphy's Gas Station in Liberty, KY. He was the son of the late G.W. "Doc" Murphy and Lucy Jo Allen Murphy. He leaves 20 direct living descendants and two step-descendants.

Sherman Allen Murphy passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Rockcastle Regional in Mt. Vernon, KY. He was 94.

Funeral services are 12pmCT/1pmET Saturday, April 18, 2015 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Clifton Cowan officiating. Burial will follow in the Murphy Cemetery with military honors by the Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post. Visitation will be Saturday from 10amCT/11amET, until funeral time at the funeral home.

Sherman Allen Murphy, 94, Casey County, KY (1920-2015)

He was born May 15, 1920 in Casey County, KY, he was the son of G.W. "Doc" Murphy and Lucy Jo Allen Murphy. He died Monday, April 13, 2015, in Mt. Vernon, Rockcastle County, KY, at the age of 94 years, 10 months, and 29 days.

He was the former owner/operator of Murphy's Gas Station in Liberty, KY. He was a WWII Army veteran and member of the Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church.

Survivors include the following:
  • A son: Roger (and Linda) Murphy of London, KY

  • A daughter: Kay Means of Louisville, KY

  • Two step-daughters: Linda Richards and Jean Reeves

  • Five grandchildren

  • Thirteen great-grandchildren

  • A brother: Edwin Murphy of Liberty, KY

  • And a sister: Helena McDonald of Liberty, KY
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, Kenneth, James, Claud, and Sherwood Murphy; and three sisters, Matie Decker, Irene Lay and Myrtle Harmon.
