Dickey Akin, Adair County, KY (1944-2015)

He was a Missionary Baptist Minister and was a member of a highly regarded family. He was a native of Adair County, KY, and will be laid to rest in the county of his birth. He was the son of the late Robert & Alta Price Akin. His wife, Phyllis Coomer Akin, survives. He leaves 31 direct living descendants.

Dickey Akin age 70 years of Burbank, IL formerly of Columbia, KY passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Loyola University Medical Center in Illinois.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, with Bro. Stanley Watson the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Antioch Cemetery, 3422 Wheeler Hill Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4:30pmCT, Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at the funeral home.



Dickey Akin, Adair County, KY (1944-2015)

He was born on November 26, 1944 in Adair County, KY. He was the son of the late Robert & Alta Price Akin. He died Saturday, March 21, 2015, in Illinois at the age of 70 years, three months, and 23 days.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Coomer Akin, of Burbank, IL and the following:
  • Two sons: Larry (Rhonda) Akin of Huntsville, AL; and Bill Dickey Jr. (Angie) Akin of Buckingham, AL

  • Two daughter Karren (Howard) Loy of Columbia, KY; and Dinah (David) Smith of Campbellsville, KY

  • Two brothers: Finley (Reba) Akin of Columbia, KY & Dean (Jane) Akin of Versailles, KY

  • Four sisters Flossie (Huston) Price, Charlene Sexton, Margie Williams of Columbia, KY; & Sheila (Steve) of Louisville, KY

  • Fifteen grandchildren: Lee Franklin, Waylon (Bo) Franklin, Adam Franklin, Alex Cassady, Chris Loy, Billie Foley, Christy Loy, Kyle Loy, Cody Akin, Jarred Akin, Aaron Akin, Roxann Mathews, Maggie Martinez, Nicholas Akin and Mackenzie Akin

  • Thirteen great grandchildren

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters, Rev. Bobby Akin, Audrey Calhoun and Genois Collins. He was a Missionary Baptist Pastor.
