City of Campbellsville welcomes first woman police chief Click on headline for complete story and concise story of history making police chief's 15 year career in law enforcements, along with details on the selection process Official news release from City of Campbellsville, KY News courtesy Larry Smith, FM 99.9 the Big Dawg The City of Campbellsville has selected a new Police Chief, according to Mayor Tony Young. The Mayor's office began the search for a Police Chief after the announced retirement of Chief Tim Hazlette in December. Chief Hazlette has served as Police Chief since December 1, 2011. Mayor Young announced the search and posted the qualifications in early January, which resulted in the receipt of over thirty (30) applicants, many from out of state. Applications were reviewed and narrowed to a group of seven (7) who were invited for an interview. Mayor Young impaneled an interview committee consisting of nine persons representing a cross section of the community. At the conclusion of the initial interview, the committee narrowed the candidates to three (3). Mayor Young conducted a second round of interviews of the three candidates with the assistance of the City Attorney. Subsequently Mayor Young selected Deputy Chief Patricia Thompson, a fifteen (15) year veteran of the department. Mayor Young called a special City Council meeting on Monday, March 9, 2015, for the purpose of presenting his nomination for Chief. The City Council ratified Mayor Young's nomination and Chief Thompson will assume her new duties on Monday, March 30, 2015. Chief Thompson is a native of Elkhorn City (Pike County) Kentucky. She began her law enforcement career as a Deputy in the Pike County Sheriff's Department in the early 1990's. Later, she served as an officer for the Lancaster, Kentucky Police Department. From there, she was recruited to join the Campbellsville Police Department in 1999, where she has served as an officer for the the past fifteen (15) years. During her career in Campbellsville, Thompson served as a uniformed Patrol Officer and Detective before being promoted to Sergeant. She served as sergeant from 2005-2009, serving as investigative Supervisor. In December of 2009, Thompson was promoted to Lieutenant to lead the investigative and Administrative Support functions fo the department. In 2012, Thompson was promoted to Captain to serve as Deputy Chief. Thompson has been responsible for leading the daily operation of the department, specifically the administrative and investigative support functions. This story was posted on 2015-03-10 05:57:56
