News from life on the farm

GREATER BLISS, KY (Thu 5 Mar 2015) - I managed to get out to check on the girls, cows for those of you who don't know us, around noon today.

Loaded with a ton of feed and my new tires in place, I headed for the other farm to feed and check on the cattle. I managed to get all the way up the hill to the barn to check on the new calf that arrived yesterday.

To my surprise, not far from the barn lays another new calf nestled in some hay and momma trying to get him up.

Just down the hill another cow was pacing around looking for a place to have her calf. I knew I was in trouble and called for my neighbor, Jimmy Bennett to please come help.

We managed to get both to the barn after a trying walk up and down the hill in the snow.

All three are resting comfortably in the barn tonight thanks to the help of a good neighbor and friend. It is times likes these that the best in people comes out.

I know things could be worse and they are much worse to the north of us where they got huge amounts of snow.

Please remember to say an extra prayer for those caught in this horrible weather and for those who are trying to plow them out and get them to safety tonight.

So again, thank you to all those who made it possible for me to be able to get out and about today and save the baby calves. I sure hope the rest stay in until this weather passes. - Victoria Pike
