Travel West: Roadwork continues despite extreme cold Progress made, but motorists warned that water left on roads has frozen, creating icy conditions on roads which were clear. By Wes Watt, Public Information Officer Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 3 Bowling Green KY BOWLING GREEN, KY (4:17amCT, Fri 6 Mar 2015) - Crews worked overnight and will continue to work around the clock doing the best they can to get roads clear. The single digit temperatures have made the road clearing work even more difficult, but a little more progress was made overnight. Lots of progress was made yesterday, but any water left on the road from the melting has frozen creating icy conditions on roads that were clear. In many cases motorists could be traveling on a clear section of road and quickly come across a covered. Please use caution and slower speeds if you have to be out today. Most A routes have at least one a passable lane, but still can have ice and snow coverage on them. Some B routes are in the same condition, but some of them have yet to see much plowing. Almost no C routes have been touched. Salt treatment halted during the night due to the extreme temperatures, but might resume if the sun comes out today. We know it is frustrating not to have your road plowed, but please be patient. The crews are working as fast as they can. Interstate 65 in District 4 beginning in Hart County has become passable following hours of it being blocked yesterday. However, several new crashes and car removals have continued to make traveling on I-65 in that area difficult. Motorists should expect some delays if traveling on I-65 through that area. It is suggested motorists utilize the Natcher Parkway and Western Kentucky Parkway to avoid the Hart County area. KY 1435 (Barren River Road) in Warren County is closed at the 9.4 mile marker which is near the bridge that goes over Gasper River due to flooding. For more roadway information motorists can check the District Three Twitter account at KYTCDISTRICT3 as well as the district Facebook Page at KYTCDISTRICT3. Kentucky 511 will have road conditions, crashes, traffic and other delays listed from across the state on the website at 511.ky.gov , as well as the KY511 smartphone app. People can also keep track of what areas are being treated here: http://511.ky.gov/winteractivities/main.jsf This story was posted on 2015-03-06 04:10:37
