Adair Co. Deputy CJE: Statement, school bus stops, turnarounds

(Note: This statement has been passed by School Superintendent Alan Reed and Adair County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison-Corbin. - HOLLY GRMSLEY)

From Holly Grimsley, Deputy Judge Executive writes:

The Judge Executive's office has received (and understandably so) many calls questioning why school bus turn-arounds and/or bus stops are not being cleared or cleaned. The short answer is the road department crews are not allowed, by state law, to cross or work on any property that is not county owned and are not allowed to take any equipment that is paid with taxpayer dollars onto any private property.

We understand the frustration and as much as we also would like to ensure that those areas are taken care of as well, these stops are usually privately owned and legally we cannot. There is a process in place that may allow the county a legal right-of-way and if you are interested you should contact the school system and your local magistrate.
