ACHS Welding team wins 1st in SKILLS contest at Somerset, KY

It was the first competition for the team; a huge feather in the cap of Adair County HJigh School's new welding program

The Adair County Lake Cumberland ATC Campus went to Somerset Community College Saturday, February 28, 2015, and competed for the first time in SKILLS Welding Fabrication Contest.

The team competing was made up of welding students Dusty Claiborne, Joshua Grant, and Chad Scholl.



They competed against 8 other teams from across the region and were judged on Safety, Teamwork, Welding Blueprint reading, layout, GMAW-Spray (MIG Welding), Finish and Quality Control. The team came away with 1st place. A huge feather in the cap of Adair County High Schools new program.

Instructor Barney Taylor stated "the fact that we have only been in our new shop for a short period of time, these three students came in extra time, snow days, and practiced at home preparing for this contest. I am extremely proud of these three young men. They went above and beyond."

The three man team move on to the State SKILLS contest April 22-25. We are very proud of these young men and their instructor and wish them the best of luck at State. Shamarie Claiborne, Adair County Board of Education, District Migrant Recruiter / Media Promotions / Technology
