LWC's Hood and Showers earn Player of the Week honors Jordan Hood earns her fourth career weekly award while Chelsea Showers earns her first By: Charlie Balcom COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson's Chelsea Showers is the Mid-South Conference Softball Player of the Week and teammate Jordan Hood is the MSC Pitcher of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday, February 23, 2015. The weekly honor is Hood's first of the season and fourth of her career. Showers earns her first career conference player of the week award. Showers hit safely in all four of her games last week while helping Lindsey Wilson to a 4-0 record to earn conference player of the week honors. The Atlanta, Georgia, senior outfielder recorded a .467 (7-for-15) batting average with five runs, a RBI and two stolen bases during the four games over the weekend. Showers collected three hits and a pair of runs in Lindsey Wilson's 7-0 win over NCAA Division II Albany State (GA). She added two hits, including a double, and a run in a 3-1 win at Thomas (GA) -- which ended the Night Hawks eight-game winning streak. Showers leads the Mid-South in runs (5), hits (7) and is tied for first in stolen bases (2). She is second in doubles (2) and fourth in batting average (.467). Hood picked up a win, a save and a no-decision without allowing a run in her three appearances last week to earn conference pitcher of the week honors. Hood capped the week with 16 strikeouts while allowing just six hits over her nine innings of work. The Locust Fork, Alabama, senior hurled a complete-game shutout in the Blue Raiders' 7-0 win over Albany State. Hood allowed just four hits while striking out 14 en route to her first win of the season. Against Thomas, Hood earned a four-out save with 1-1/3 scoreless innings in the 3-1 win. She capped off the week by getting the final two outs in a 6-3 win over Thomas to secure the sweep over the Night Hawks. Hood is tied for the conference lead with a 0.00 earned run average.
