Phillip Harold (Phil) Hicks, Taylor Co., KY (1955-2015)

'His sensible approach to life and genuine sensitivity towards others resulted in his being well loved and respected by almost everyone he came in contact with.' He was a native of Taylor County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Delmar and Edith Glover Hicks. His wife, Donna Taylor Hicks, survives. He leaves 20 direct living descendants.

Phillip Harold "Phil" Hicks, age 59 of Campbellsville passed away unexpectedly at 2:30amET, Friday, February 20, 2015 while a patient at the Jewish Heart and Lung Center in Louisville, KY.

The final celebration of Phillip Hicks" life will be at 12pmCT/1pmET, Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home, 503 East Main Street, Campbellsville, KY, with Rev. Roger Grammer officiating. Burial will follow at Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, 700 Old US 68, Campbellsville, KY. The family request visitation 3pm-7pmCT/4pm-8pmET, at Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home in Campbellsville, KY.



Phillip Harold (Phil) Hicks, Taylor Co., KY (1955-2015)

Phil was born July 14, 1955, in Campbellsville, KY. He was the son of the late Delmar and Edith Glover Hicks. He died Friday, February 20, 2015 in Louiville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 59 years, seven months, and six days.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Taylor Hicks, and the following:
  • His three sons: Phillip "Matt" Hicks and his wife, Kresha of Connersville, IN; and Gregory Hicks and his wife, Jessica, and James Hicks and his fiance', Heather Bray, all of Campbellsville, KY

  • His two daughters: Lorrie Hicks and Tessa Hux, of Campbellsville, KY

  • Fifteen grandchildren

  • And his three brothers, Ronnie Hicks and his wife, Sharon, Richard Hicks and his wife, Betty and Carl Hicks and his wife, Brenda, all of Campbellsville, KY.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Carolyn Grammer, Ida Hicks, Sue Miller and Wilma Abell as well as three brothers, Howard Hicks, Larry Hicks and Russell Hicks.

Phil displayed wisdom and drive throughout his life, frequently pursuing new challenges such as opening and operating various local businesses including auto repair, wrecker services, bail bonds and even a restaurant. He retired from Visteon Corporation in Connersville, IN where he also served as a chief union steward for the local UAW.

His sensible approach to life and genuine sensitivity towards others resulted in his being well loved and respected by almost everyone he came in contact with. His generous spirit and desire to support his community developed into a natural affinity for public service which channeled into his providing notary and paralegal services, serving as a volunteer firefighter, a police officer for a number of years and also a private investigator. Most recently, Phil worked as the manager of Arrow Head Ranch and Green River Lake Commons. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Connersville Masonic Lodge. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing guitar and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a deep love of gospel music and a strong Christian belief system.
