Travel Conditions - 8:30amCT Quick Update

The thaw is bringing new hazards. Ponding, with higher risk of hydroplaning, a bigger risk for drivers this morning in many areas

By Chris Jessie, Public Information Officer

(8:06amCT/9:06amET, Sat 21 Feb 2015) - A few areas of sleet and snow are reported but moderate is rain falling through most of the district and ponding water is the most pressing issue this morning. Crews worked overnight to push accumulated snow and sleet off. At this time, we are working to open up drains and create gaps in plowed snow so water can run off.

Motorists should use caution by reducing speed and focus attention toward road conditions. Water is standing in places where typically it does not. Driving too fast for conditions may restrict a driver’s ability to slow down in time to avoid hydroplaning.

Current forecasts indicate we will be dealing with rain most of the day but this does not mean there are no slick spots due to snow and ice. Trouble spots that were packed down this week are now more slick because they have liquid on top. Drive accordingly.
