Adventure Tourism: Cyclists Set for 3rd Annual KY Century Challenge By: Seth Wheat FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Kentucky Century Challenge highlights four of the most popular cycling events in Kentucky - the Redbud Ride, in London; the Horsey Hundred, in Georgetown; the Preservation Pedal, in Frankfort; and the Hub City Tour, in Elizabethtown. Each event offers a "Century Ride" option of 100-mile routes. In order to complete the Kentucky Century Challenge, riders must complete any three of the four Century Rides. Riders who are successful will qualify for a special-edition Kentucky Century Challenge jersey. The 2015 ride dates and locations are:
While there is no limit on the number of participants in the Century Challenge, only the first 800 to sign up will be eligible for a free or reduced-cost jersey. Riders completing all four century rides, and are among the first 800 registrants, will receive their special-edition jersey free. Those completing three of the four rides, again among the first 800 registrants, will receive their jerseys for a discounted cost of $30. Those signing up after the first 800 riders will be able to purchase their jersey - if they complete the challenge - at a cost of $45. New jersey designs are currently being finalized. Check-in procedures for each of the four rides will be emailed to participants prior to the respective ride. Participants will need to check in at each of the partner rides in order to qualify for their jersey. A jersey distribution party will be planned for the fall of 2015. This will be a chance to celebrate with others completing the Kentucky Century Challenge. Details will be announced at a later date. Sponsors for the 2015 Kentucky Century Challenge include: Bullmoose Brothers Bikes, BP Funding Group, Graviss McDonald's, Small Batch Cyclery (formerly Main Street Bikes), London/Laurel County Tourism, Cumberland Valley Cycling Club and London Downtown. Registration will be available online through April 17. Registration for the Kentucky Century Challenge is free (individual rides do have registration fees) and may found at http://www.kentuckytourism.com/outdoor-adventure/centurychallenge.aspx.
