Adair Co. School System Announces STOP Tipline

Report bullying and other risky behavior online

By Robbie Harmon

Safety is our first priority. In an effort to use every available resource to STOP bullying and other risky behaviors in our schools, Adair Co. Schools proudly announces the implementation of the "Safety Tipline Online Prevention" or STOP! Tipline. The STOP! Tipline is designed for use as an online reporting/prevention tool which is provided free by the Kentucky Center for School Safety. If students, parents or community members know of an unsafe situation in school (bullying, weapons, drugs or alcohol, etc.), they can anonymously pass on that information to school personnel by using this basic email format.

"We realize that students sometimes are fearful or reluctant to report bullying, whether it's happening to them or someone they know," said Superintendent Alan Reed. "We want to make it extremely simple and private for our students to report any bullying incident or perceived threats using their portable devices."

The process for using the tip line involves locating the STOP Tipline logo on the Adair Co. Schools' website as well as on each school site. Starting on Monday, January 19th, students or community members can anonymously report bullying, cyber-bullying, violence, risky behavior or other safety concerns to school personnel by using this tipline. Tips can be left anonymously or students may choose to have someone contact them. More information can be found about the tip line at www.kycss.org/stop/about.php.

The announcement of the STOP! Tipline comes on the heels of collaborative efforts between of Adair Co. Schools, Columbia Police Department's School Resource Officer Kevin Atwood and the Kentucky Center for School Safety.

School Safety Coordinator Robbie Harmon adds, "I am very excited about addition of the STOP tip line. Our efforts to keep students, staff and visitors safe are always a top priority and the STOP Tipline is just one more tool to help us keep everyone safe in our schools, safe on our campus and safe in our community."
