Mayor Curtis Hardwick prior to the meeting start, was in a relaxed mood, in a very familiar place for him, as he presided over the Mon 5 January 2015 regular session of the Columbia City Council. It was a very brief session, last just over 10 minutes, with all Council Members present: Craig Dean, Linda Waggener, Craig Lasley, Dr. Ron Rogers, Charles Grimsley, and Mark Harris. On Mayor Hardwick's right, studying papers, is City Attorney Marshall Loy. Hardwick has served three previous terms. (Already a record? If there's a historian in the house, please let us know.) Craig Lasley a member of a prominent family in political leadership, took his seat as the first African American on the body in several years. Lasley was a close seventh in the 2010 election, but won this year at No. 5. He's the son of J.C. Lasley, the husband of Felicia Lasley (no wonder he won - CM), and the father of Jordan Lasley, and brother in law of second term Adair County School Second Division School Board Member Quin Lasley. In this photo taken before the meeting, members of the Columbia Boy Scouts, the big hit of last nights meeting, are seated, prepared to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at Mayor Hardwick's invitation. The Columbia City Council has been served by black Americans earlier, including Joe Taylor, Jr., and Joe Louis Graves - may others, may a city historian can lend a hand with that information. - CM
