Community comes together to rescue Christmas Dog

The dog was chained to the sign at Columbia IGA and had gotten into a precarious situation. But an ad hoc Rescue group - three nurses, the Adair County ball team, who left their breakfast at McDonald's to help by sharing sausage biscuit with the puppy, and Officer Tracy McCarol, who had been dispatched to the scene, extricated the dog from the snarl and took it to the Green River Animal Shelter, where he awaits owner claim or adoption into a forever home. The Rescue Team calls the dog its 'Christmas Dog,' and hope there is a Happy Ending, with its reunion or a chance to go to a new home

This is just a quick comment on the IGA Dog. When leaving IGA today I saw this beautiful half grown pup chained to and wrapped around the IGA sign, nearly choked.

Although in a precarious situation, the dog was smiling and engaging, gloriously happy to see that someone had actually stopped to help him to breathe again.

While "unwrapping" the energetic pup from the pole and chain, the grocery staff came to help.

Three nurses came onto the scene.

The Adair County Ball Team trotted over from McDonald's with an offering of their sausage biscuit to the distraught and starving pup.

Our formed rescue team called 911 and their staff quickly dispatched Police Officer, Tracy McCarroll, who diligently responded to the emergent scene and called the appropriate resources to care for the abandoned dog.

Today, the dog tied to a pole in a parking lot united many caring people in Adair County; the Nurses, the Ball Team, the Police Officers, and the Grocery Staff. We asked, "Who could abandon and tie a dog to a pole?" We named him the "Christmas Dog".

The take away for this story is that many caring people in Adair County quickly came together today to care for a vulnerable life, our Christmas Dog, who needed our help.

This is a wonderful Christmas Story of caring and love for one who needed our help, our Christmas Dog.

Who can give this Christmas Dog a Forever Home? - Celia
