Reader urges all to remember those who have lost loved ones Eighty-seven in area since Thanksgiving, she writes. '. . . please remember them with a telephone call, a card, or just cry with them. They need extra hugs.' - DIANE WALLACE By Diane Wallace I have been an avid follower of ColumbiaMagazine since 2006. The community events and community spirit inspires me and warms my heart. Briefly, this spirit was demonstrated for the family of firefighter Tony Grider; honoring the veterans; speaking out for lost pets; and all the holiday and church special events. I have enjoyed the photos and articles on Lindsey Wilson College and the local school activities and academic progress. What is lying heavy on my heart this morning, is since Thanksgiving (11/27/14), there seems to have been an increase of activity in the obituary section. Looking at the archives this morning, I wrote down each name and the thanks to the CM team, they are enumerated to a grand total of 87. 87 families since Thanksgiving will have one less present to buy and wrap. It is hard to lose a loved one to death any time of the year. The death of a loved during the "happiest time of the year" forever taints and skews one's perspective during this holiday season. I have written down each name and determined to pray for each family every day for one year. I do not know these people, but having lost my only child during this "holiday season" I can fully relate to a degree - the pain. To all of you who know these people, please remember them with a telephone call, a card, or just cry with them. They need extra hugs. This story was posted on 2014-12-22 10:23:03
