4-H Shooting Sports (YHEC) orientation is Thu 18 Dec 2014 Program teaches young hunters the basics By Tony Rose There will be a Kentucky Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) orientation meeting at 6pmCT, Thursday, December 14, 2014, at the Adair County Elementary School (ACES), cafeteria at ACES, 870 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Youth Hunter Education Challenge consists of young hunters learning the basics of orienteering, hunter safety trail, wildlife id, shotgun, muzzleloader, archery, rifle, and complete a knowledge exam. The program teaches kids the great tradition of hunting, stressing safety and ethics. The Kentucky Hunter Education Challenge is an advanced hunting program open to all youth who have completed their basic hunter-safety training in Hunter Education. The program improves young people's outdoor skills as well as increasing their awareness of safety, hunting ethics and much more. The competition consists of four categories of firearms including shotgun, rifle, muzzleloader and archery, along with four categories of knowledge consisting of a hunter responsibility test, wildlife identification, orienteering (compass trail and map reading) and hunter safety skills.
