LWC Oliver named NAIA Region 1 Coach of the Year Oliver led Lindsey Wilson to the Mid-South Conference East Title and a 10-3 record By Charles Balcom Lindsey Wilson College head football coach Chris Oliver was named American Football Coaches Association 2014 NAIA Region 1 Coach of the Year, AFCA officials announced Monday, 9 Dec 2014. The regional coach of the year award is the third for Oliver and second straight. Oliver shared the award in 2011. The third coach of the year honor comes remarkably in just five seasons. Oliver, who has a career record of 33-23, led the creation of the program from scratch beginning with its first season in 2010. “This award is a reflection of the way our players and assistants have bought into our vision and worked toward a common goal,” Oliver said. “Credit for this award goes to those men. The 2014 season was a special one that will not be forgotten by those associated with the Blue Raider program.” Lindsey Wilson finished 2014 with the program’s best season in its young history. Oliver led the Blue Raiders to their first 10-win season. Lindsey Wilson also captured the program’s first-ever Mid-South Conference East Division title and its first trip to the Football Championship Series. Once in the 16-team national playoffs, Lindsey Wilson became the first team since 2010 to win a FCS game in its first trip. In addition to its first playoff berth, Oliver led the Blue Raiders to its highest ranking in the program’s history with a No. 6 national ranking. Lindsey Wilson concluded the historic season at 10-3 and 6-0 in the Mid-South Conference East Division. This story was posted on 2014-12-09 15:39:43
