ACES Veterans program was a touching experience By Alice Curry News from Adair County Elementary School If you have never attended the "Thankful for Our Veterans" Program (our celebration of the Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving holidays) at Adair County Elementary School, you have missed out. This event was took place on November 25, 2014. This student led program is truly a touching experience for our Veterans and audience alike. Fifth grade students are in charge of the program and are guided by ACES Social Studies teachers, Angie Smith, Jamie Shelley and Jason Curry. ACES students invite veterans and personally introduce the veteran along with the branch of service in which they participated. Guest speaker for this year's program was First Lieutenant Robert Meacham, who is father to two of ACES students. He gave a heart- warming speech to students comparing his success in the military using Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Happy Kids and how students should be using these in their lives as well. ACES 5th grade students who participated in the program were as follows: Kaitlyn Akin, Jeremy Bailey, Mackenzie Bennett, Emily Bivens, Taylor Bunch, Jaylan Carter, Emma Ellison, Bailey Grider, Julius Holmes, Luke Janes, Kristina Maheiu, Hannah Philpott, Sienna Overby, Damian Scruggs, Bradyn Smith, Laney Stotts, Briley Taylor and William Turner. - Alice Curry This story was posted on 2014-12-05 09:07:14
