LW Men's Swimming takes 2nd place, LW Women 3rd at Brenau

Men's team earns 840 points, women's team totals 456 points, at Brenau Invitational.

The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's swimming claimed second and third place, respectively, as the Brenau (GA) University Invitational concluded on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at the Frances Meadows Aquatic Center in Gainesville, GA.



Altogether, the two teams accomplished 13 national standards during the second and final session of the event.

On the men's side, the Blue Raiders totaled 840 points to place behind winner SCAD (GA)-Savannah, which earned 938 points total.

For the Lindsey Wilson women's team, the Blue Raiders earned 456 points to trail SCAD-Savannah (1,000.50) and host Brenau (631.50).

Among the women's swimmers who claimed national cuts was Laura Stephenson, who won three events during the second session alone.

In the 400-yard individual medley event, Stephenson finished with a first-place time of 4:42.37 to earn a national 'A' standard and set a new school record. She also won the 100-yard butterfly race with a time of 58.98. Stephenson earned an individual win in the 200-yard butterfly with a finishing time of 2:10.15.

Also in the 400-yard IM, Courtney Fleeger earned a national 'A' standard with a finish of 4:46.51. Elena Nikolaeva also claimed a national 'A' cut in that same event with a time of 4:56.36.

Fleeger also earned a national 'A' standard in the lead leg of the 800-yard freestyle event, completing her 200-yard portion of the event in 2:03.25. She claimed a national 'A' cut in the 100-yard breaststroke event, finishing in 1:11.99 for her third national standard of the day.

Also earning a national 'B' standard in the 100-yard breaststroke was Kelsey Marshall, who clocked in at 1:12.65. Marshall claimed another national standard with her finishing time of 2:34.73 in the 200-yard breaststroke race.

On the men's side, Josh Lykins (53.31), Gage Setzer (53.60) and Zachary Patzer (54.34) each earned national 'B' cuts in the 100-yard butterfly event.

Iker Larzabal claimed a national 'A' standard in the 200-yard freestyle race with his finish of 1:46.76.

The relay team of Patzer, Setzer, Jose Prado de Lima and Larzabal combined to clock in at 7:07.09 to win the 800-yard freestyle relay event.

Individually, Patzer earned a national 'A' cut for his 200-yard split in that 800-yard freestyle relay. Lykins achieved in a national 'A' standard for his 200-yard split in that 800-yard freestyle relay event as well, clocking in at 1:48.20.

Jonas Muller won the 100-yard breaststroke race with a national 'A' cut finish of 59.36.

Ryan Leamy earned a national 'A' standard in the 1,650-yard freestyle event, finishing in 17:08.06.

Setzer claimed a national 'A' cut with a finishing time of 1:55.37 in the 200-yard backstroke race.

Lykins finished the 200-yard butterfly event in 2:00.64 to earn a national 'A' standard.

Competing in the 400-yard freestyle relay, Prado de Lima (48.55) and Larazabal (48.58) claimed individual national 'A' cuts with their 100-yard splits in the race.

The event concludes competition for the men's and women's teams during the 2014 calendar year.
