Women's Basketball 20 Nov 2014: LWC 70. Shawnee State 79. Shawnee State comes from behind to defeat No. 19 Lindsey Wilson Women’s Basketball 79-70 in MSC Opener. Blue Raiders led by as many as 16 points before a second-half shooting cold spell. By Charles Balcom News from Lindsey Wilson College PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -The No. 19-ranked Lindsey Wilson women’s basketball team suffered a 79-70 come-from-behind loss to Shawnee State (Ohio) Thursday night, 20 Nov 2014, at the Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium. After leading by 11 at halftime, the Blue Raiders (5-1, 0-1 MSC) let a 16-point second-half lead slip away after suffering a scoring drought that lasted over eight minutes. The Bears (7-0, 3-0 MSC) went on a 22-11 run to start the second half, trimming the Blue Raider lead to one at 52-51. A two-point shot by Ali Zieverink with 9:50 remaining gave Shawnee State their first lead since the 14:50 mark of the first half. The cold spell for the Blue Raiders allowed the Bears to storm all the way back and take the lead. After a three-point shot by Kayla Richardson at the 15:35 mark, Lindsey Wilson would not score another point until a Billie Hearn basket with 7:07 left in the game. Lindsey Wilson kept it close and even retook the lead at 63-62 on a jumper by Chanel Roberts. Ashley Johnson hit a pair of free throws to cut the Shawnee State lead to two with two minutes to play, but on the ensuing possession the Bears’ Ashley McMurtrey hit an open three pointer to put Shawnee State up by five with 1:45 to play. The Blue Raiders could not get their final shots to fall and Shawnee State’s Abby Feuchter converted all six of her free-throw attempts in the final 1:16 to secure the win, 79-70. Lindsey Wilson was able to build their first-half lead with the help of 12 Shawnee State turnovers compared to six by the Blue Raiders. Keosha Wisener and Michelle Montgomery scored 11 points each in the first half but failed to record a point in the second half. Cassidy Martin led the Blue Raiders with 16 points on the night. Chanel Roberts also finished in double figures at 11. Lindsey Wilson shot 45.5 percent from the field in the loss while Shawnee State finished at 56.8 percent. The Bears made nine three-point field goal attempts while the Blue Raiders had six. Zieverink led all scorers with 22 points in the win. McMurtrey had 17 while Feuchter finished with 15.
