CBC mission team will report on work in Dominican Republic By Cathy Martin News from the Columbia Baptist Church The Columbia Baptist Church mission team which recently returned from the Dominican Republic, will be sharing their testimony and experiences along with a slide show about their entire trip, Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 6:30pmCT at Columbia Baptist Church, 201 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Everyone is invited to come and join us. Prior to the trip, Daniel Hutcheson, a multi-talented young man, who can make almost anything, presented the ladies of the Columbia Baptist Mission Team with bracelets that he had made to give to women in the Dominican Republic. The bracelets were given out at the Emmanuel House to mothers that came to hear the gospel. They were able to hear the gospel, then, make a craft, had a hygiene workshops and received hygiene bags provided by the ladies of the team. They were then presented a bracelet made by Daniel. They were so excited. The Emmanuel House was founded by Mirqueya Guznan, a lady from the Dominican Republic who had experienced poverty first hand, often lacking food and clean water. She was able to put herself through college and become a teacher. The school was established to provide an education to children who couldn't otherwise afford to go to school, usually because they don't have a birth certificate and parents can't afford uniforms and school supplies. The school is in a very poverty stricken neighborhood and is for pre-school through second grade, along with a deaf class and a special needs class. The school provides for an afternoon snack and purified drinking water. Emmanuel House does daily Bible study and prayer along with their core curriculum. They also provide tutoring for elementary through high school students. This story was posted on 2014-10-28 10:04:02
