Writer describes experience with door-to-door salespeople

This story a followup on behavior of door to door salespeople in Green County, which appears more to be a comment on sales tactics than on illegal intentions. The following a story from a reader in Hardin County commenting on recent complaints in Green County.

By Jane Harper

I live in Stephensburg, KY (Hardin Co.)

Man and woman pulled in my driveway in the same color van you described in the story and sloppily dressed man got out carrying a bottle of Snuggle fabric softener. I met him on the porch and he said he was giving the bottle to me as a gift and handed me the bottle; all he wanted to do was come in and clean my carpet for free.

I responded that I didn't have any carpet, that we replaced it with laminate flooring. He kept trying to talk me into it by asking if I had area rugs and I just cut him off; the whole thing sounded fishy from the get go.

I have known friends that had worked for vacuum cleaner business's and had never heard of them doing this. I told him no thank you and then he said he would have to have the fabric softener back, that it would come out of his pocket if I didn't let him at least come in and talk to me.

I gave him the bottle back and he was on his way, I watched them leave and they didn't stop at any of the neighbors' houses, I thought to myself; that is weird, too.

The man was heavy set with dark hair, day old facial hair and had dress pants and shirt on but was very sloppy in appearance. Woman in van was heavy set with long dark wavy hair.

I don't know if this will help, but I reported it to Hardin Co. Sheriff Dept. They took my info and report. My name is Jane Harper, 11036 Leitchfield Road, Cecilia, KY 42724
