Mitch McKinley: Payroll tax not a fair one

Says payroll taxes fall on working people, property taxes only on property owners, and adds, At least sales tax puts the burden on everyone. - MITCH McKINLEY
CM Note: Should Kentucky allow cities and counties to add local sales taxes as is done in Tennessee & Indiana and other states?

By Mitch McKinley
Personal Commentary

I have to pay payroll taxes to the City of Bowling Green and Warren County just because I work in the city.

I know of nothing I get in return except they have a full time fire department in the city; but I live in the county.

What bothers me is why is it always the hard working people who try to make a living by getting a paycheck that the tax is always their burden to pay.

Everyone uses the roads and get all the benefits of what the city and county offers but it's not a fair tax because the ones who get a paycheck provide a quick way for the government to just take a cut of their check.

Just like landowners being burdened with property taxes: If you don't own anything you don't pay.

At least sales tax puts the burden on everyone.
