Hispanics now constitute largest ethnic or racial minority in U.S.

Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15, 2014). Hispanics/Latinos are largest ethnic or racial minority in Russell and Casey Counties, too.
The Hispanic population of the United States as of July 1, 2013, making people of Hispanic origin the nation’s largest ethnic or racial minority. Hispanics constituted 17 percent of the nation’s total population. Source: 2013 Population Estimate.

A check of the U.S. Census shows that also to be the case in the CM 7-County area in Russell and Casey Counties, as well, with the 3.3% Hispanic/Latino the highest in the 7-County area.
  • Adair County, KY - White, 94.9%; black or African American, 2.7%; Hispanic or Latino, 1.7%
  • Casey County, KY - White, 97.2%; black or African American, 0.05%; Hispanic or Latino, 2.4%
  • Cumberland County, KY - White, 95.4%; black or African American, 2.6%; Hispanic or Latino, 0.9%
  • Green County, KY - White, 95.7%; black or African American, 2.0%; Hispanic or Latino, 1.4%
  • Metcalfe County, KY - White, 96.8%; black or African American, 1.5%; Hispanic or Latino, 1.1%
  • Russell County, KY - White, 96.5%; black or African American, .05%; Hispanic or Latino, 3.3%
  • Taylor County, KY - White, 92.0%; black or African American, 5.0%; Hispanic or Latino, 1.8%
Taylor County, with 8% non-White, is the most racially diverse county in the 7-County region.
