COLUMBIA, KY - History will be made when the Lindsey Wilson College community celebrates the college's 83rd homecoming on the weekend of Friday-Saturday, September 12-13, 2014.

Six individuals will be honored by the college; a new homecoming queen and king will be crowned; and a new Blue Raider Bob mascot will be unveiled.

Earliest homecoming

"This will be the earliest the Lindsey Wilson family has held homecoming," said Lindsey Wilson Director of Alumni Relations Randy Burns. "For more than 70 years, we held homecoming in either November or December until the return of football back in 2010 allowed us to move it up to an earlier date so that we could enjoy more outdoor activities during the weekend."

Running with the Blue Raiders 5K

LWC's homecoming weekend will also include the sixth-annual "Running With the Blue Raiders 5K," a one-person performance of Oscar Wilde and several reunions.

"One of the great things about Lindsey Wilson's homecoming weekend is that we create programming to appeal to a broad range of people," Burns said. "In addition to the usual reunions and other traditional activities, we like to offer alumni and friends sporting events, cultural events and other activities to enjoy throughout the weekend."

Alumni Awards and Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony

The weekend's highlight will be September 13 when four alumni and two longtime friends of the college will be honored at the Alumni Awards and Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony.

The LWC National Alumni Association will present three awards: 1973 alumnus Kerry Michael Givens of Bowling Green will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award; 2001 alumnus Chris D. Estes of Lexington will receive the Young Alumnus Award; and the Rev. Howard O. and Dee Reynolds, both of Lexington, will be named honorary alumni.

Two members from the Class of 2001 will be inducted into the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame: Michelle Burns Perry of Indianapolis will be the first volleyball player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and Jessica Seamon of Smyrna, Ga., will be the first softball player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Perry's induction coincides with the 20th anniversary of volleyball as an NAIA intercollegiate sport at LWC.

Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime

The homecoming king and queen will be crowned during halftime of the LWC-Kentucky Wesleyan College football game, which will kick off at 6pmCT September 13 at Blue Raider Stadium, 828 Russell Road.

Before the game gets underway, a new Blue Raider Bob mascot costume will be unveiled. The new mascot costume was purchased with money raised by the LWC Class of 2013 class gift. It will replace a mascot costume that has been in use since 1996.

"It's going to be an exciting time, and we look forward to celebrating this big moment with members of the Class of 2013 and the rest of the Lindsey Wilson family," Burns said.
