Click on headline for complete story with photo By Ted Sloan News from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Darrell Selby of Russell Springs helps guide Kentucky agriculture policy as a member of the Kentucky State Board of Agriculture. "I see the Kentucky State Board of Agriculture as the information link to producers in the field," Selby said. "Serving on the board enables me to stay informed and inform producers in my area about what's on the horizon with rules, regulations, and new agriculture production possibilities." A board member since 1995, Selby represents Kentucky agriculture teachers. Selby is retired from teaching agriculture at Russell County High School for 32 years. He raises commercial beef cattle and registered black Herefords. Under Kentucky law, the Kentucky State Board of Agriculture advises the state agriculture commissioner and agriculture department. The agriculture commissioner is chairman of the 14-member board, and the dean of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture is vice chair. Nine citizen members are appointed by the governor. The state presidents of FFA, 4-H, and Young Farmers of America are nonvoting members. "The Kentucky State Board of Agriculture brings a wide variety of experiences and viewpoints to the table," Agriculture Commissioner James Comer said.
