Emma Bardin Childress, Adair County, KY (1928-2014)

She was a member of a large, highly regarded Adair County family. She was the daughter of the late John Golden and Mary Ann Smith Bardin and the widow of Rex Childresss. She leaves 11 direct living descendants. She was a member of Columbia United Methodist Church, and had retired from Oshkosh B'Gosh as a Regional Quality Assurance Inspector, with 25 years service.

Emma Bardin Childress 85 years formerly of Columbia, KY and Cave City, KY passed away Monday, June 16, 2014 at 10:40 AM at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville, KY after a long illness.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 10:30amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Jamie Bryant the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4:30pmCT Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at the funeral home.



Pallbearers: J R Beard, Junior Beard, Phillip Bardin, Greg Bardin, Shawn Bardin and Brandon Bardin.

Honorary pallbearers: Bobby Beard & Ken Beard.

She was born on Wednesday, December 19, 1928 at Bliss in Adair County, KY.
She was the daughter of the late John Golden and Mary Ann Smith Bardin of Adair Co. KY. She died Monday, June 16, in Hodgenville, LaRue County, KY, at the age of 85 years, 5 months, and 28 days.

She was the widow of Rex Childress who preceded her in death 2012. She was also preceded in death by one son Dean R. Beard in 2010; two grandchildren, Eric Dean Beard in 2014, and Ginger Renee Beard in 2009; four brothers G. B. Bardin, Delphus O. Bardin, Lewis Bardin and Mike Harmon.

She is survived by the following:
  • One son: Larry O. Beard and wife Leva Frances of Elizabethtown, KY

  • One sister: Golie Bardin of Columbia, KY

  • One brother: Hershel Harmon of Columbia, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Jill Beard, Kimberly Hickey, Larry R. Beard and Gretchen Knight

  • Six great grandchildren

  • Several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives & friends survive
