VFW Post 6097 flag disposal program Sun., June 15, 2014 Local Cub Scouts will participate Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Joe Hare, Commander, VFW Post 6097 VFW Post 6097 Columbia will be having flag disposal program beginning at 3pmCT, Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the VFW Post, 411 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY. This will be to properly dispose of worn and tattered flags in a proper manner of respect of our American Flag. Saturday, June 14, 2014 is flag day. Prior to this day, we encourage anyone that is flying the American Flag to take a look at it and if it is dirty, torn, worn or tattered, please replace it or at least take it down. The American Flag is considered a living thing and should be treated with the utmost respect. Any flags that you need to dispose of, if you will fold them and place them in a plastic bag or paper sack, there will be a can outside the VFW Hall the week of the June 9-14, 2014 that you may place your flag in or give to any VFW member. If you are in Russell County if you will get your flags to any member of DAV Chapter 51, they will bring them as many of those guys are also members of the VFW. We have Cub Scouts scheduled to be a part of the program to dispose of these flags and the public is invited to attend. This will not be a long, drawn out program.
