Lorene S. Vance, 93, Adair County, KY (1921-2014)

She was a beloved former Adair County public school teacher whose career spanned over 30 years and was a faithful member of the Columbia Baptist Church. He was a native of Adair County, KY, and a resident of Vanderburgh County, IN, at the time of her death. She was a member of a highly regarded Adair County family, the daughter of the late Howard and Eula Garrett Spears and the widow of Franklin Vance. She leaves 5 direct living descendants.

Lorene S. Vance, 93, formerly of Columbia, died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the West River Health Campus in Evansville, Indiana.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 1pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with Rev. J. Alvin Hardy officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery. 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Visitation wll be after 10amCT, Sunday.

She was born April 5, 1921, in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter the late Howard and Eula Garrett Spears. She died Thursday, June 5, 2014, in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, at the age of 93 years and 2 months.

She was the widow of Franklin Vance, a member of Columbia Baptist Church and retired from the Adair County School System after 30 years.

Survivors include:
  • Her daughter: Sue (Alan) Steele of Evansville, Indiana

  • One grandson: Joel (Andrea) Steele of Evansville, Indiana

  • Three great-grandchildren: Drew, Ryan & Lee Steele

  • Several other relatives and friends
Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, is in charge of arrangements.
