This year the crusade is dedicated to the memory of Kody Pelly 1990-2013

By Brandon Lewis, Adair County Fire Department Crusade Chairman

The Columbia/Adair County Fire Department collected donations from churches on Sunday, June 1, 2014, on the Public Square from 8am to 12pmCT, and the response was great. We're hoping to surpass last year's total of $32,515.14. Prior to this year, Adair County had collected $1,003,181.95 for the Crusade. That means we're now working on the second million dollars. (Stats from Joe Hare Article: Adair's total contributions to Crusade tops $1 million since 1963)

Roadblocks will start on Friday, June 6, 2014, 4pm-8pmCT, and Saturday, June 7, 2014, 8am-3pmCT. Roadblocks will be located on Campbellsville Street, Walmart, 2988 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY. and on Jamestown Street, in front of IGA, 900 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY.

Again this year the live remote will be held in Campbellsville at the Reflection Park located on Old Greensburg Road. Channel 13 WBKO will be broadcasting live starting at 6pmCT/7pmET.

This year the Crusade will be dedicated to the memory of the late Kody Pelly.

His family will be at the remote to accept a plaque in Kody's memory. Thanks Brandon Lewis

It's Crusade for Children Sunday in Adair Co., KY

2014-06-01 - Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Brandon Lewis,, left and Billy Hadley are at the Greensburg Street entrance to the Public Square in Columbia this morning, accepting donations for the 2014 Crusade for Children. This Sunday, the churches of Adair County are receiving gifts, as well. Lewis said that he expects this to be another year of increased donations, buoyed by candidate participation and by the fact that this year the Crusade honors the memory of an all-time favorite Adair Countian, Cody Pelly. The Columbia/Adair County Fire Department appreciates every gift, from coins to $1 bills, and all the checks. Quite often, they said, checks are written out for as much as $100, $500, even $1,000 and are dropped in the collection buckets on Sunday morning. They're hoping, on this beautiful June 1, 2014 day that a number of folks will be heroes and make this tribute to Cody a truly memorable one. The collection continues Downtown at least through noon today. - EW

Crusade Sunday in Columbia, KY - A family affair

2014-06-01 - Burkesville & Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Rita Bragg, left, - and from left counterclockwise, son Grayson Bragg, and husband Chris Bragg, along with Trent Sparks, were at the Burkesville entrance to the Public Square this morning, taking part in one what is usually one of the biggest days of the Crusde for Children. Checks and cash donated today, combined with the Crusade Sunday at Adair County Churches provide a huge boost, and Downtown Churches - there are eight of them - are a big factor. Within a two blocks one church - known for its community involvement - over raises $3,500 or more. This year, the crusade is dedicated to the memory of Cody Pelly. The collection points on the square will continue until at least 12pm noon CT, today.

Mr. Robert Montgomery mans 2014 Crusade collection point

2014-06-01 - Public Square & Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Robert Montgomery accepted donations for the 2014 Crusade for Children on the Campbellsville Street entrance to the Square, which seemed to the the hottest part of Downtown, necessitating a stylish sun protection hat. The Columbia/Adair County Fire Department collected funds on the Square today on Crusade Sunday for Columbia and Adair County. This was the Sunday many churches held Crusade Collections. All the of the money collected in Adair County is returned to the county in the form of Crusade Grants. Last year, Adair County surpassed $1,000,000 in cumulative Crusade collections and is now work on the second $1,000,000 for children. A feature which makes this charity stand out from almost all others is that the funds are deposited in a local bank in an interest bearing account. The interest goes a long way toward paying all the administrative costs of the crusade, Chief Mike Glasgow said. - EW
