Saddened by decision to hold School on Memorial Day

'I sincerely hope that the teachers who are required to work that day take that opportunity to teach the students who are in school the significance of the day and the meaning behind the holiday' - MELISSA STONE

By Melissa Stone

I join veterans, Joe Hare and Kristopher Knight and the many other veterans that I know and love in being saddened by the choice to have school in session on Memorial day.

However, I sincerely hope that the teachers who are required to work that day take that opportunity to teach the students who are in school the significance of the day and the meaning behind the holiday.

Many men and women gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we could all have the freedoms that we enjoy on a daily basis.

I also hope that the parents who choose to keep their children home in protest also take time from the day to teach their children the same.

To all our veterans and to the families of those who sacrificed for me - I thank you! - Melissa Stone
