Ralph Waggener: A case for words everybody knows Why would you use words that a lot of us would have to look up in order to understand? By Ralph Roy Waggener Personal commentary Dear Jon & Ed, When I was young and dumb I did not know many big words, now I’m old and just As dumb and still don't use uncommonly used words. Why would you use words that a lot of us would have to look up in order to understand? My much older brother Ed is a word smith of the highest caliber, he not only can spell most any word but can tell you what it means computer read out style. When he started at Edmonton Herald in Metcalfe Co. he was using some of them big words and I asked him to do me a favor. I asked the word smith Ed to use two common words that everyone could understand in place of uncommon words seldom used, and Jon Halsey I ask you to do the same. No we are not dumb it's just is not an interest to most of us to look up what big seldom used words mean. Think you very much, - Little Brother This story was posted on 2014-05-21 12:16:29
