Click on headline for story with 8-photo Charles Thomas collage of that day

By Greg Thomas, Adair Co., KY Emergency Management Director

43 years ago, April 27, 1971, Adair County was struck by a F4 tornado.

Tornadoes and disasters can strike without much warning. but we've progressed through the years with NOAA weather radios, local media coverage and Adair County currently has an early warning notification system, trained weather spotters and warning sirens in parts of the county.

As with any type of disaster, Emergency Management encourages you to have a family disaster plan and a disaster kit. More info on both of these can be found at www.ready.gov. - Greg Thomas
