Personal commentary>

It is always a shock and tragedy when a manufacturing facility that provides that many jobs in our communities decides to shut down its operations. It's especially hard for those employees that had endured a similar closing over fifteen years ago at their Campbellsville plant only to have to relive such a stunning announcement again. I was in my early 20's when my father, who worked at Fruit of the Loom-Campbellsville, came home to tell my mother and me about the loss of his job and countless others due to overseas relocation. It was a roller coaster of emotion. . . shock, disbelief, sympathy, and frustration.

Like many of you, I have been there emotionally as a son. My heart goes out to those affected by the news of the Jamestown plant. The decisions that have been made by career politicians in years past and present, to include NAFTA, have decimated many of our once thriving industries. These politicians are out of touch with rural Kentucky. I am not a cookie-cutter politician, but rather a new idea.

As your next 16th District State Senator, I will work to provide a sound economic policy that can attract new businesses to this area while strengthening those that are already in place. We need to make Kentucky and our local communities a "right to work" state that can help entice companies to relocate to this area. I will work to kick Obamacare out of Kentucky because it is causing small businesses to increase health insurance premiums for employees, and even forcing companies not to hire new workers. I will work alongside elected officials and community leaders within the 16th District to make sure that we have the necessary resources to bring jobs to this area.

Education breeds job creation. I will see that our local school districts are adequately funded and provided with technological and vocational trade skills that can equip our young people with the necessary training for the future. We need to not forget about agricultural education in our school systems as this will continue to be Kentucky's largest income provider for our state. The 16th District is fortunate to have three excellent schools of higher education (Campbellsville University, Lindsey Wilson College and Somerset Community College satellite campuses) to assist those wanting to further their education or to provide additional training opportunities. We have a ready-made workforce of hardworking and dedicated individuals from several of the counties within the 16th District. I'm willing to work hard for the people of the 16th. - Max Wise, Republican Candidate, KY State Senate District 16

Suggestions for other Election 2014 Civil Discourse Conversations will be suggested between now and Primary Election Day, 6am-6pmCT, Tuesday, May 20, 2014.
