Shamarie Claiborne in San Antonio: An afternoon downtown

The Riverwalk and More
Click on headline for story with 12 photo(s).

By Shamarie Claiborne

One afternoon I spent taking shots of Downtown San Antonio. The scenery there is so different than ours but beautiful all the same. They have a river that runs through downtown and instead of trying to cover it up or divert it, San Antonio has embraced it. They have created the Riverwalk that is full of hustle and bustle, good food, music, and beauty all rich in tradition. There are historic buildings and churches everywhere. I will say they should be commended on restoring and holding on to their heritage. These are some of the shots I got around downtown San Antonio. Remember NOT better than here, just different. - Shamarie Claiborne

Shamarie Claiborne: An Afternoon in San Antonio. Riverwalk Fountains

2014-04-16 - San Antonio, Texas - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne.
The San Antonio Riverwalk has fountains and waterfalls
all along the way. There are walkways on both sides of the river with shops, restaurants, and hotels in every direction as far as the eye can see. Water is everywhere you look which totally contradicted my "vision" of Texas. - Shamarie Claiborne

Birds and Ducks are everywhere along the Riverwalk.
And as you can see they are not afraid of people in the least. I swear if this guy to talk he would have said "that will be a dollar please". - Shamarie Claiborne

Beauty was everywhere along the San Antonio Riverwalk, even up.

This bronze statue of the city's patron Saint San Antonio de Padua-
-- depicted here holding baby Jesus was presented to the city right before the 1968 World's Fair from the Portuguese government and was created by Leopoldo de Almeida. Saint San Antioio de Padue is also the Catholic patron saint of the poor. It was a double celebration for the city since it was also the 250th anniversary of the city's creation. - Shamarie Claiborne

Many people don't know it but there is a ton of German influence
in the city of San Antonio. This beautiful church was built so the German population could hear the services in their native tongue. This view was look up from the River Walk. - Shamarie Claiborne

Shamarie Claiborne: An Afternoon in San Antonio - Fountain

2014-04-16 - San Antonio, Texas - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne.
This fountain was in a little village type area.
I could envision folks dancing to live music in the summer with the lights stung overhead. The fountain is in the middle of the area with a stone patio in all directions around it. This gathering area was in the middle of the artist district that was full of shops filled with local artist work. My favorite art teacher Henrietta Scott along with my friends Cayce and Todd Davenport would have all been in heaven! - Shamarie Claiborne
