COLUMBIA, KY A cold and rainy day could not stop the Lindsey Wilson men's outdoor track and field team from taking home a first-place finish at the Lindsey Wilson College Invitational on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Blue Raider Stadium.



The Blue Raiders scored 104 total team points and were able to hold off Georgetown (KY) who finished in second with 98 points and Campbellsville (KY) who finished third with 91 points.

John-Paul Williamson, Carmetrick Ross, Ben Graham and Austin Childress all turned in first place finishes to help the Blue Raiders build their lead.

Williamson emerged victorious in the first track event of the day. He finished first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:12.39 winning the event. Teammate Gregory Smithson took third in the steeplechase to add six more points to the Blue Raiders' total.

Ross won the 400 meter dash after posting a time of 50.35, three seconds faster than the next competitor. James Northcutt and Tylor Pinkard also placed in the event coming in second and fifth place, respectively.

Ben Graham earned a national "B" cut en route to his win in the 5,000 meter race walk after finishing in 24:58.76.

Austin Childress took first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.45 for 10 team points. Ryan Casey added a sixth-place finish in the event with a time of 2:08.68.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Childress, Ross, Northcutt and Max Cabe also finished first after posting a time of 3:32.62.

Garry Korir scored in the 1,500 meter run after finishing with a time of 4:21.79 for second place, less than two seconds behind the leader.

In the field events, Northcutt and Pinkard both placed in the high jump in second and sixth, respectively, to combine for 11 total team points.

Zac Gnadinger finished seventh in the long jump with a distance of 5.42 meters picking up three points.

Jared Davenport and Gnadinger took sixth and seventh place for a total of five points in the javelin throw.

Daniel Farris turned in a third-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 11.22 meters for six team points. - CHARLIE BALCOM, Lindsey Wilson College Assistant Sports Information Director
