Charles Burton, 77, Adair County, KY (1936-2014)

He was a member of a large, highly regarded Adair County, KY, family. She was the son of the late Tim & Mary Jane Burton Burton. His wife of over 57 years, Peggy Sue Lewis Burton, survives. He leaves eight direct living descendants. He was a Veteran, 1950's U.S. Army and was a distributor salesman of forty and a half years for Wynn Oil Co. and several other companies at Warsaw Chemical, Harper Brush Works, S.K. Tools and cleaning supply companies.

Charles Burton age 77 a Liberty Road resident, Columbia, KY passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 11:10pmET, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY

Funeral service Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 2pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Clergy officiating are Bro. Jamie Bryant & Bro. J. Richard Lehman. Interment will be iin Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with full military honors presented by Columbia VFW Post 6097. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Saturday, March 29, 2014.



Charles Burton, 77, Adair County, KY (1936-2014)


He was born on Friday, May 1, 1936 in Adair County, KY. He was the son of the late Tim & Mary Jane Burton Burton. He died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in Elizabethtown, Hardin County, KY, at the age of 77 years, 10 months, and 25 days.

Charles was a Veteran, 1950's U.S. Army and was a distributor salesman of forty and a half years for Wynn Oil Co. and several other companies at Warsaw Chemical, Harper Brush Works, S.K. Tools and cleaning supply companies.

He had been a farmer and an avid fisherman for several years. He was also a member of Purdy Separate Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of fifty seven and a half years. Peggy Sue Lewis Burton, and the following:
  • A son: Alan Dale Burton and wife Rhonda of Columbia, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Chris Burton (Tonya), Lindsey Cundiff (Derek), Jordan Burton (Trista) and Sarah Burton

  • Three great grandchildren: Wesson and Tristyn Burton and Cason Alan Burton

  • One brother: Randall Burton (Judy)

  • Three sisters: Bernice Cowan (Calvin), Joyce Alberta Rodgers and; and Phyllis Shirley (Donnie)

  • A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives
He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Keith Burton; and sisters, Lucille Burton, Betty Jean Burton, Loeta Redmon and Madeline Grider.

Memorials are suggested to Gideon Bibles or Purdy Separate Baptist Church Building Fund.
