She remembers cross-state train ride, alone, at 4-5 years of age About: 9-year old used to ride bus alone, Columbia-Louisville and back By Martha Berry Hunter Durham's story of going to Louisville by bus reminded me of my travels. We lived in Elkton when I was 4 and 5 years old and had a neighbor who was very special to me. When we moved to Brandenburg, where I started to school, Mom and Dad would put me on the train to go back to Elkton to spend the summers with my friend, Mr. Rob Hardwick. He would pick me in Elkton and at the end of the summer would put me back on the train to send me back to Brandenburg. Quite an adventure for a 6 year old. I'm afraid those innocent times are gone forever. --Martha Berry This story was posted on 2014-03-28 09:20:17
