She was a native of Edmonton, KY, and a resident of Columbia, KY at the time of her death. She was a member of a highly regarded family. Her husband of over 61 years, L.C. Willis, survives. She leaves 8 direct living descendants. Mrs. Willis was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church and was active in the Columbia United Methodist Women and other church committees, she was retired from Houchen's Market where she worked for 27 years as a grocery checker.

Gladys Willis age 80 years of Columbia, KY passed away suddenly Friday, March 14, 2014 in Louisville, KY.

Funeral services are Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 3:30pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Neil Janes the officiating clergy. Visitation will begin after 3:30pmCT, on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY.

She was born Tuesday, August 15, 1933 in Edmonton, Metcalfe County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Chess P. and Ethlanie Kinniard Bell. She died Friday, March 14, 2014, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 80 years, 6 months, and 29 days.

She was preceded in death by these siblings: Woodson Bell, Elizabeth Nell, Catherine Edwards, Runell Williams, and Virginia Ruby.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years L. C. Willis of Columbia, KY. They were married on January 3, 1953.

She is survived by the following:
  • One son: David Willis and wife Ginger of Columbia, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Stephanie Coomer and husband Eric of Columbia, KY; and Joe Willis and wife Laura of Liberty, KY

  • Five great grandchildren: Payton Coomer, Chase Coomer, Carson Coomer, Virginia Willis and George Willis

  • One sister: Mabel Delk of Glasgow, KY

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • And a host of friends
Mrs. Willis was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church and was active in the Columbia United Methodist Women and other church committees, she was retired from Houchen's Market where she worked for 27 years as a grocery checker. Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, in charge of arrangements.
