Heather Evans: This isn't Illinois or Michigan

Storms like this are rare occurrence; it doesn't make sense to have several snow plows, an over abundance of salt, or extra employees to meet a momentary problem like Adair County is seeing now.

Heather Evans writes:
I think what people don't realize is this is not Illinois, Michigan, or any other snow filled state. It does not make fiscal sense for the county to buy several plow trucks, have an over abundance of salt, or to hire more employees when snow/ice is a rare occurrence in this county. I have not seen appreciable snow in over 4 years. We had ice once in 2012 or 2013. Another thing to consider. When the snow you see is plowed what do you think is underneath? Road? No, it's ice and when the plow truck drives over it, the ice becomes even more compressed. Four wheel drive is GREAT in snow but as soon as it's plowed and compressed four wheel drive is not as useful. Perhaps it's unfortunate but in a rural area such as AC it pays to be prepared. Now that the snow has ceased I'm sure they are doing their best to clear the roads.

It's not just the "boonies". I've heard Rte. 55 is snow covered as well and it's a major road. I don't think there has been much preferential treatment in this instance. Lol - Heather Evans
