Wheeler Reid Oakes, 91, Knob Lick, KY (d. Feb. 26, 2014)

He was the son of the late James Payton and Dellie Smith Oakes. Mr. Oakes was a World War II veteran and a retired farmer.

Wheeler Reid Oakes age 91 of Knob Lick died Wednesday February 26, 2014 at his home.

Funeral services will be 2pmCT, Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the New Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, March 1, 2014, 4pm-8pmCT, at the funeral home.

He was the son of the late James Payton and Dellie Smith Oakes. Mr. Oakes was a World War II veteran and a retired farmer.

He is survived by the following:
  • Three sons: Reid and wife Carol Oakes of Lancaster, KY; Ronnie and wife Kelly Oakes of Knob Lick, KY; and Glen and wife Bernadette Oakes of Knob Lick, KY

  • Daughter in law: Rhonda Oakes of Edmonton, KY

  • One sister: Lizzie Stephens of Edmonton, KY

  • Six grandchildren

  • Eleven great grandchildren
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Eula Mae Oakes, one son Doug Oakes, two brothers Lee Oakes, Vernon Oakes, four sisters Olive Gray, Ovelia Gray, Orlena Nance, and Iris Polson.

Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, in charge of arrangements.
