Reed, Director of Special Education Anita Goode, Michelle Powell, and Griffitt Powell working with Mary Keen, ACES Speech Therapist, in interview with WHAS producer/director Larry Ledford Click on headline for complete story with photo(s) By Shamarie Claiborne News from the Adair County School District In the coming days be watching WHAS-Tv for a clip about the Adair County Special Education Program. It features Kody Pelly's memory, Griffitt Powell, and Mary Keen Speech Therapist at Adair County Elementary School. WHAS Crusade for Children producer/director Larry Ledford spent the morning interviewing Kim Pelly, Superintendant Alan Reed, Director of Special Education Anita Goode, Michelle Powell, and Griffitt Powell working with Mary Keen ACES Speech Therapist in preparation for a clip promoting the WHAS Crusade for Children. Mr. Ledford is focusing on the positive impact the Crusade has on schools and their students. It is an honor to be included in the upcoming video. Now that the weather is clearing and WHAS is starting to gear up for this year's Crusade for Children which is held in June each year, there are a few things everyone should keep in mind. First is the fact that 100 percent of the money donated is used to benefit special need children and is distributed in the form of grants to different children's charities as well as school districts within the State of Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Secondly, firefighters play a pivotal role in local collections. And the Adair County firefighters work hard each year and the results have always been nothing short of fabulous. The Columbia, Breeding, and Knifley Fire Departments work together to make Adair County proud. Lastly, the WHAS Crusade for Children has benefited Adair County special needs students for many years in many different forms. Last year, our WHAS Crusade for Children grant was in the amount of $25,842.00 dollars and helped fund a speech therapist position. This year's donations will go towards our next grant request in the amount of $33, 301.00 dollars which will help fund a Positive Approach for Student Behavior (PASS) teacher at Adair County Elementary School. The Adair County High School and Adair County Middle School have had huge success with this program during the current school year. In closing, the Adair County School System wants to thank the Columbia, Breeding, and Knifley firefighters for their hard work and dedication throughout the years to the Crusade. And to the community at large who donate from their hearts, to better the lives of our special need children, within the district. - Shamarie Claiborne, Media Coordinator, Adair County School District This story was posted on 2014-02-24 17:02:50
