Adair County Hospital Board elects new officers

By Ed Waggener

The Adair County Hospital Board, meeting Tuesday, January 28, 2014, with four members, elected Richard Grant as the new Vice Chairman of the Board and Brad Keltner as Secretary.

The elections were necessary after the resignation of Neal Gold left the Vice Chairmanship vacant. Gold resigned December 31, 2014, to assume the role of Westlake Regional Hospital CEO, making him ineligible to sit on the board of trustees. All members of the board are now officers. They are Craig Pyles, Chairman; Richard Grant, Vice Chairman; and Bruce White, Treasurer.

December not a pretty month, but January looking better

The board had been warned that with the behavioral unit down two weeks in December that activity overall would be down. CFO David Hayes said that, in addition, many other medical facilities in the area were finding less demand for services, attributing the lower activity to colder weather and less illness, overall. But Dr. Chuck Giles, in response to a request to comment on the situation, said that he had had an average month at his private practice.

CEO Neal Gold told the board that business for the hospital and its clinics are up slightly for January.

New roof is almost one quarter complete

Gold also told the board that the new roof for the hospital is now one-quarter to one-third complete, bringing the full utilization of the behavioral unit closer to reality.

Turnaround includes better customer service, marketing

Gold said that he hospital will be the staff is completing an initiative to improve customer relations, with training of all personnels. He said that even acknowledging the extremely high rating the institution gets on patient satisfaction more work had been need and is being done. Even in those parts of the institution otherwise doing well in patient satisfaction. "Any screw-ups hurt," he said, adding that it is his goal to eliminate them. He said most of the problems he hears about are in the Emergency Room and that is being addressed.

Mr. Gold said that he will be expanding the hospital's marketing, starting with the posting for a Marketing Director.
