By Miss Donna Rieder

Madeleine, aka "Laney," was born on New Years Eve, and her mama rejected her.

I found her lying half-dead in the freezing rain on a midnight check-up trip to the barn.

After a warm bath and blow-dry, she came to live in the house.

She wears newborn diapers with a hole cut for her tail, and gets a bottle of goat milk every fours hours.

She likes to sleep on a towel under my desk when I'm working on the computer, and follows me everywhere like a puppy.

By three days old, she was head-butting the cats off their feet and using the dog as a trampoline, and running sideways down the hall.

By one week, I had to put all my houseplants up out of reach; no, she wasn't wanting to eat them, she wanted to play with the dirt! Typical kid!!!

The life and capers of Laney the Kid

Laney the Kid now learning to be "real" goat! This is Laney playing on the cat-scratching post with my cat Halle, while Caroline glares in disgust from the hallway. I later caught her trying to leap onto the dining-room table, so she is now out in the barn, learning how to be a "real" goat! -Donna Rieder
