Campbellsville Dairy Queen closes, ending a great era It was built by Adair Countian Ores Royse, who had earlier built the Dairy Queen in Columbia. Mr. Royse sold the Campbellsville Store to his Maple Street/Lindsey Hill neighbors, Paul and Frances Callison, who moved to Campbellsville where the Callison family has continuously operated the business for over half a century Click on headline for complete story, photo(s) By Larry Smith, FM 92.7, the Big Dawg It was a sad evening in Campbellsville, KY, last night. The Campbellsville Dairy Queen on West Main Street, is going out of business, Bobby and Phillip Callison, the current owners, announced. The landmark restaurant was started in the 1950's by Mr. Ores Royse, who built the Columbia Dairy Queen in the Dip between Jamestown and Town Hills in Columbia and then sold it to Paul and Frances Callison, (who then lived less than a block way from Mr. Royse's home on Maple Street in Columbia). It was the first fast food restaurant in Campbellsville, KY, and, at the time it's closing, the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Campbellsville. The store has been in the Callison family and continuously operated by the family since, throughout its over one-half century history. - Larry Smith, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications This story was posted on 2014-01-27 05:41:21
