Julia Ann Pickett Thompson, 68, Adair Co., KY (1945-2014)

She was a member of a highly regarded old-line Adair County family. She is remembered for her knowledge of downtown Columbia and love of Adair County traditions, which she wrote about so charmingly; for her warm personality and spirit, and for her devotion to family. She was the daughter of the late Ellis & Mary Welch Pickett. She leaves eight direct living descendants. She was a faithful member of Columbia Baptist Church where she enjoyed and dedicated her time to the care of the landscaping of grounds the historic structure, and she worked for Keena Jo Grant.

Julia Ann Pickett Thompson age 68 years of Columbia, KY, passed away Wednesday January 22, 2014 at 6:42pmCT, at the the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY.

Funeral service Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2pmCT/3pmET, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Dr. Jerry Oakley the officiating clergy. Interment will be in the Orr Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:30pmCT/4:30pmET, Friday, January 24, 2014, at the funeral home.



Julia Ann Pickett Thompson, 68, Adair Co., KY (1945-2014)


She was born on Tuesday, May 29, 1945 in Columbia, Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Ellis & Mary Welch Miller Pickett. She died Wednesday, January 22, 2014, in Bowling Green, Warren County, KY, at the age of 68 years, seven months, and 24 days.

She was preceded in death by one son, James M. "Jamie" Thompson on May 31, 2010.

She is survived by the following:
  • One son: Rodney Thompson II of Columbia, KY

  • One brother: Billy Pickett of Columbia, KY

  • Six grandchildren" Justin "Kasey" Thompson, Sarah Thompson, Linsey Thompson, Brandon Thompson, and Abigail Thompson and Ally Thompson

  • One great grandchild: Albany Thompson

  • Her companion: Jim Woodrum

  • And numerous aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.
Julia was a member of Columbia Baptist Church where she enjoyed and dedicated her time for the care of the landscaping of the Columbia Baptist Church and she worked for Keena Jo Grant

Family requests expressions of sympathy to take the form of a donation to the landscaping of the Columbia Baptist Church and may be left at the funeral home.
