Bob Fortunato of LaGrange will present a program sponsored by the Kentucky Humanities Council, "A Confederate Veteran's Life After the War." In the wake of America's Civil War, more than 40,000 Kentucky men who had worn the gray returned home. While many returned to quiet, productive lives, some were not as fortunate and ended up in publicly funded alms-houses, poor farms or asylums. The Confederate Home in Pee Wee Valley opened in 1902 to provide a respectable place of retirement. The public is welcome to attend this program. - Sam Terry This story was posted on 2014-01-20 07:59:01
