She was a native of Springfield, IL, a longtime resident of Glensfork, Adair County, KY, and was a resident of Russell Springs, KY, at the time of her death. Her husband of 52 years, Welby Hamon, preceded her in death. She leaves 5 direct and and five step living descendants. She was a member of the Glensfork Christian Church, was a retired cook at John Adair Elementary School and she assisted her late husband in dairy and beef farming.

Betty Hamon age 85 years of Russell Springs, KY. formerly of Glensfork, KY passed away Saturday Jan. 4, 2014 at 4:12amCT, at her home.

Funeral services will be Wednesday January 8, 2014 at 10amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY with Bro. Charles Edwards the officiating clergy. Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columiba, KY. Visitation will be after 4:30pmCT, Tuesday, January 7, 2014.



Betty Hamon, 85, Russell County, KY (1926-2014)

She was born on January 12, 1928 in Springfield, Sangamon County, IL. She was the daughter of the late Logan & Dollie Bunch Bennett. She died Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 23 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband Welby W. Hamon of 52 years on July 21, 1999.

She is survived by the following:
  • Two daughters: Debbie (Bobby) Gadd of Berea, KY; and Wanda (Kermit) Burton of Russell Springs, KY.

  • One granddaughter: Heather Bennett of Russell Springs, KY

  • Two step-grandson Kendall Gadd of Berea, KY, and Craig Gadd of Waco, KY

  • Two great grandchildren: Noah Bennett and Bailey Bennett of Russell Springs, KY

  • Three step-great grandchildren: Stephen & David Gadd of Berea, KY and Jennifer Gadd of Richmond, KY

  • Several other relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Bennett and Logan Bennett, Jr.; one step-brother, Raymond Bennett'; four step-sisters Evelyn Grant, Kate Collins, Ruby Collins and Jewell Shea.

She was a member of the Glensfork Christian Church, was a retired cook at John Adair Elementary School and she assisted her late husband in dairy and beef farming.
