Please - join us in Adair Heritage Association membership? Your $250 gift of a Lifetime Membership in the Adair Heritage Association will place you on the roll of those who help save the historic Adair County Courthouse. By Linda Waggener Please join Ed and me in giving a $250 Lifetime Membership in the Adair Heritage Association. We help out in areas as we are able, and always in those places that help our people and our heritage. The Adair Heritage Association supports the preservation of those historic places we identify as home. Currently your gift will help restore the Courthouse. Your membership gift will make a difference! Our Lifetime membership gift amount allows Ed and me to be at the pledge group level of "whittlers" and there are other categories if you select different amounts and areas of identification. Of course, you can specify other areas as you choose. You can send your check now to: The AHA, P.O. Box 963, Columbia, KY 42728 Email: adairheritageassociation@gmail.com You may have recently received a letter from one of the committee members in the Adair Heritage Association and it is also shared below: Historic Adair County Courthouse Preservation Project All Adair Countians have one thing in common -- whether born here or have chosen to live here -- we love Adair County! And because of our love for and ties to Columbia and Adair County we want to preserve her history for ourselves and for generations to come. As of April 2010, our historic courthouse was vacated with offices moved to either the new Judicial Center or Courthouse Annex. Because of these moves, our courthouse is vacant with neither our county nor city governments able to afford the preservation of the courthouse. As with any empty building, it is deteriorating and we must work quickly to preserve this majestic centerpiece. However, also because of this, we are now faced with an unparalleled opportunity. We can SAVE our historic courthouse and keep it the centerpiece of Columbia and Adair County history. Now we need your help! Preservation of our courthouse rests on all our shoulders. Of immediate importance is the roof over both the Greensburg and Jamestown Street entrances. Another pressing need is for heat in all areas of the building to allow water usage during winter months (particularly for restrooms) and to have the courthouse warm enough to be available to the community on a continuing basis. With the exception of three small energy efficient ductless units in the main floor hallway, the courthouse is currently without heat, air conditioning or sufficient running water until this need can be met. The Adair Heritage Association, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, has assumed the responsibility to restore and maintain the courthouse. Once the restoration has proceeded to a point where it becomes usable the available space will be utilized for the community good while preserving the integrity of the historic and architectural nature of our courthouse. In an effort to ensure its integrity we are working with the Kentucky Preservation office. Also all donations are tax exempt. The cost of working on historical buildings is great. Our courthouse fundraising committee has conducted several local fundraisers and has plans for future ones. We continue to research grant opportunities, but along with other economic woes, grant opportunities are also not as abundant so we are in desperate need of donations. Together we can do this…we can preserve our historic courthouse! You can send your check now to: The AHA, P.O. Box 963, Columbia, KY 42728 Email your pledge to: adairheritageassociation@gmail.com Thank You!
