Says leaders passed on vocational school opportunities in past

Roger D Smith DMD writes:
Wouldn't it be nice if we had the total vocational school in Adair County instead of daily ferrying our students to Russell County? You know this could be true if only our leaders had accepted the opportunity.

Sorry, I don't remember the year, but Mr. Sam Evans who worked to place the vocational schools in the state offered the vocational school to Adair County not once but three times. Trying to meet a schedule set by the state, Mr. Evans, in desperation, met with the Russell County system and placed the school in less than two hours. Mr. Evans was a close friend of Howard Cheatham and really wanted to help our county and could never understand the rejection of this program. We talked about this many times.

We've had opportunities to improve life for our citizens, not only in education, but with jobs, and it seems for one reason or the other we have let them slide. Our young people deserve a chance to be educated with the goal improving their lives, but also the opportunity to stay and work in their home town.

My support goes without question. - Roger D Smith DMD
